The Big C and Frankincense

All of us know about Frankincense being one of the three gifts of the Magi, but what is Frankincense and what can it do for you?  Frankincense is a fragrant resin, from Boswellia sacra and carteri trees.  The tree’s sap is collected and hardens to a resin in about ten days.  The aroma is lemony, earth, woody and spicy.  It is often burned as an incense.

Anyone who is worried about or has been diagnosed with the Big C should be using this oil.  Smokers, I am talking to you!!!  A 2012 study found that a chemical compound called AKBA is successful at killing c_a_n_c_e_r cells, especially those that have become immune to chemotherapy!  When paired with Myrrh, the effect was even greater.  Frankincense oil has been shown to help fight cells of specific types of c_a_n_c_e_r. Researchers in China investigated the anti-c_a_n_c_e_r effects of frankincense and myrrh oils on five tumor cells lines in a lab study.(Chen et al, Composition and potential anti-c_a_n_c_e_r activities of essential oils obtained from myrrh and frankincense, Oncol Lett. 2013 Oct;6(4):1140-1146. Epub 2013 Aug 8.)  In the study, they use the word “apoptosis” to describe the effect of these oils on the c_a_n_c_e_r cells, “apoptosis” means cell death.

Frankincense boosts immune function, as well.  It can also destroy dangerous bacteria & VIRUSES.  Its anti-bacterial activity is the reason people use it to prevent gingivitis, bad breath, cavities, toothaches, mouth sores and other issues.  Because Frankincense is antiseptic and disinfectant, it eliminates cold and flu germs and can be used in place of chemical cleaners.  It also aids in nutrient absorption and is anti-inflammatory.

This oil is beneficial to ladies dealing with menstruation or menopause issues, as it balances the hormones and is good for the pituitary and pineal glands.  It helps with regulating estrogen production, and relieves cramps, mood swings, nausea, fatigue, headaches, and pain.

Finally, Frankincense heals the skin and is anti-aging.  Frankincense promotes regeneration of healthy cells and keeps existing cells and tissues healthy.  It reduces stretch marks, surgery or acne scars, even old scars!  This oil strengthens skin and improves its elasticity, tones and lifts, while evening the skin tone and reduces redness and irritation.  This is mainly due to the astringent property of Frankincense.  It will also balance oily or dry skin.  It strengthens gums, muscles, blood vessels, intestines, hair roots and protects against loss of teeth and hair.  This quality reduces wrinkles and prevents the loss of firmness in the limbs, intestines, and abdominal muscles associated with age.  Because it is so beneficial for all body systems, including digestive, nervous, excretory, respiratory, it is considered an overall body tonic.  Add it to some coconut oil for an excellent body lotion; add it to a diffuser to kill any airborne microbes; add it to your bath, or you can apply this oil directly to the skin.  As always, do a spot check to make sure YOUR skin doesn’t have a negative reaction to it.
