The Top Ten (Inexpensive) Essential Oils

The top ten essential oils are:

1.    Lavender is an adaptogen, if you are tired it will perk you up, if anxious, it will calm you down.  Anti-biotic, anti-septic, anti-depressant, sedative, and detoxifier, it promotes healing and prevents scarring, stimulates regeneration.  Particularly good for burns.  It is known as the “Swiss Army knife” of essential oils, because it is SO healing and detoxifying.  If you get only one essential oil, then this should be it!

2.    Clove oil is anti-bacterial, anti-septic, and analgesic and is an excellent oil for any kind of infection, also during flu season!  This is a powerful oil, that should not be used undiluted until you learn how to play with it.  It is an excellent spot treatment, diluted in a tablespoon of coconut oil (which, in itself is antibacterial, more on that later!) for those suffering with acne issues.  Clove is a great remedy for toothaches.  It is a wonderful way to wipe down countertops and cutting boards, particularly if you have been handling raw meat, plus it smells great!

3.    Peppermint is anti-inflammatory, and is wonderful for your digestion, respiration and circulation.  If you are nauseated, apply peppermint over your stomach, you will either feel immediately better; or throw up, thereby, feel better.  Either way it takes care of the problem!  Also, good for toothaches, headaches and migraines, if the smell is too potent, during your headache, I have found Spearmint works just as well, but with a softer touch.

4.    Eucalyptus is anti-inflammatory, anti-septic, anti-biotic, diuretic, analgesic, and research has shown it has anti-viral properties as well.  It is extremely useful for coughs, colds, candida, cystitis, diabetes and repels insects!  With an unmistakable aroma, you will either love it or hate it!

5.    Rosemary is anti-septic, useful for muscular strains, sprains, arthritis, rheumatism, fatigue, memory loss and diabetes.  Makes a wonderful hair tonic, I always add a few drops of Rosemary to my shampoos and conditioners.

6.    Lemon is an excellent tonic for your liver & lymphatic system, rejuvenates energy, purifies skin, detoxifies and fights bacteria and fungi.  Lemon is also known as a tooth whitener, just add some to baking soda and you are good to go! 

7.    Basil is anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-oxidant.  If you need to be mentally sharp in any situation, put some basil on your temples or a least take a good long whiff of its amazing aroma!!  This is one of my favorites!  It is also good for treating nausea, inflammation, motion sickness, constipation, indigestion, respiratory issues and diabetes.

8.    Carrot Root oil is actually from carrots and is an excellent oil for skin and hair, the vitamin content is very nourishing to scalp and skin, contributing to the elasticity of the skin.  Another good one to add to your conditioner!

9.    Carrot Seed oil is derived from “wild carrot” or “Queen Anne’s Lace”.  It is known as a potent detoxifier and skin rejuvenator.  It is also useful against eczema and psoriasis.  This would be wonderful to pair with some Rose Hip Seed oil, as a facial moisturizer.

10. Juniper is anti-septic, anti-rheumatic, anti-spasmodic, and diuretic.  Juniper fights arthritis, any kind of cramp, toothaches, & hair loss.  Strengthens gums and firms up muscles.  Also removes toxins and heavy metals from your bloodstream.
