Another supressed miracle?

DMSO (aka Dimethyl Sulfoxide)

Let me introduce you to a very healing substance, that everyone should know about!

DMSO is a transparent, odorless liquid, that is obtained from wood, and is very inexpensive.  It is a by-product of the paper making process discovered in Germany in the late 19th century.  DMSO deeply penetrates the skin and other biological membranes.  There are countless scientific and medical studies that have shown this liquid displays an astonishing array of healing effects in humans and animals.  DMSO exerts a comprehensive range of effects on health that include powerful regeneration, swift balancing action and natural repair.

Both the polarity and the low acidity make DMSO a polar aprotic solvent.  “Aprotic” means it does not yield protons.  As a result, DMSO is regarded as a “problem solver”, when it comes to tricky dissolving challenges not only in medicine, but in research and industry.

DMSO induces and supports the reorganization and regeneration of cells, even in cases of severe damage to tissue (think scars, keloids…)  Doctors began to use DMSO to treat cases of skin inflammation and diseases such as scleroderma, a disease which causes the skin to harden.  Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer center found that DMSO is useful for treating certain side effects of chemotherapy, specifically, chemotherapy extravasations.  MSKCC also found that DMSO is useful for arthritis, bladder pain and inflammation, and slowing the progression of cancer.  PLOS ONE reported that DMSO is effective for treating Alzheimer’s disease, which currently has no cure.

A list of pharmacological properties pertaining to the skin:

ü  Deeply penetrates membranes in biological systems

ü  Changes the structure of water within the cell

ü  Causes DNA to realign with its original blueprint

ü  Improves immune function

ü  Crosses the blood/brain barrier

ü  Prevents freezing damage

ü  Increases the permeability of the cell membranes

ü  Anti-inflammatory

ü  Great for joint pain

ü  Great for muscle pain/ workout recovery

ü  Analgesic, nerve blocking, pain relieving

ü  Anti-oxidant

ü  Improves cell function and cell differentiation

ü  Flushes toxins from the cells

ü  Promotes wound healing

ü  Heals scars, releases collagen

ü  Changes permeability

ü  Excellent for head trauma

ü  Effectively dissolves clots, beneficial for strokes.

ü  Improves oxygen saturation in tissue

DMSO’s systemic toxicity is considered to be very low.  However, it will enhance or reduce the efficacy of other drugs, so if you are already on something, consult your doctor.  As always, this article is for your information only.  Do your own research and decide for yourself if this is something to add to your life.

Unlike some of alternative medicines other treatments, DMSO is widely available in certified pharmaceutical quality and doctors, vets, and alternative practitioners can all vouch for the efficacy and safety of the substance.

My only word of warning is that you must dilute it, as it penetrates the cells very quickly and completely, causing quite a tingling sensation.  Aloe Vera is an excellent way to dilute DMSO.  You can experiment with whatever ratios you are comfortable with, but a good place to start is an 80/20, Aloe Vera/DMSO mixture.  Also, do not go crazy and use too much, as it can cause some to smell like garlic for a few hours, start slow!  And as always start with clean skin, no matter where you are applying it!

This Info is available in the book, “The DMSO Handbook – A New Paradigm in Healthcare”, by Harmut P. A. Fischer.
